Photography-themed open house at the Harry Ransom Center - 9/28

Enjoy a day of photography at this Harry Ransom Center open house on Saturday, September 28, from noon to 5 p.m.

Activities include docent-led “jet-setter” tours of the exhibition Radical Transformation: Magnum Photos into the Digital Age, gallery activities, and mini-tours of the conservation department. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to learn how staff of the Ransom Center conserve photographs.

Commemorate your visit by posing in a photo booth inspired by the golden age of travel.
On the plaza, enjoy the music of the 1950s and 1960s music with GirlFriend and complimentary Maine Root sodas and KIND bars. Food trailers including mmmpanadas will have snacks and treats available for purchase.

The first 100 guests will receive a gift bag, thanks in part to Austinuts, Tommy’s Salsa, Dr. Kracker, Texas Olive Ranch, and more. Members, show your membership card at the visitor desk to receive a Ransom Center button and a complimentary set of Magnum postcards!

The Ransom Center’s pop-up store will feature a sale on merchandise, including glass water bottles inspired by the Center’s windows, Magnum-inspired t-shirts, postcards, and publications. Attendees will have the opportunity to win a prize package including signed books.

Saturday Wonders - Classes for Gifted Children

Saturday Wonders exclusively serves low- and middle-income families who would not otherwise be able to afford enrichment programming.

Classes
• Unique, multi-disciplinary, creative curriculum designed by gifted-experienced teachers
• Small classes, individual attention for all students
• Hands-on, stimulating, innovative classes
• Student evaluations of impact and learning conducted at conclusion of sessions
• Classes conducted in English
• Held at Huston-Tillotson University, 900 Chicon St., Austin, TX 78702
• Open for students ages 8-10 (as of January 1, 2013)
•  Fall (9/21, 10/5, 10/19, 11/2,11/16) semester from 9 AM–2:30 PM

Since 1998, the Austin Museum Partnership has hosted Austin Museum Day – a free, city-wide rediscovery of Austin museums.   Austin Museum Day, held on the penultimate Sunday of the month of September, is AMP’s premier event and represents a critical part of the vibrant cultural history of Central Texas.  It provides families with a unique opportunity to access the dynamic museum community including local exhibits and activities at over 40 participating institutions at no charge!

Call for GT Nominations

Parents, Guardians, and Teachers may nominate students for Austin ISD's Gifted and Talented Program by September 20, 2013.

The Austin Independent School District’s Department of Advanced Academic Services is pleased to announce that nominations for gifted and talented students in grades K-12 are being accepted during the month of September. Interested parents and guardians should contact their school’s GT Advocate for campus deadline and assistance with completing the nomination process. GT screening and testing requires parent/guardian permission by the campus deadline. A variety of measures are used for screening and testing including assessments for bilingual students.
