The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival

The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual video contest in which young filmmakers create movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery-winning books in about 90 seconds. We are now entering our ninth year!
For example, check out the video above, a 90-second version of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 Newbery Medal winner, A Wrinkle in Time. Watch this and many more of the most popular 90-Second Newbery videos here
We feature the best submissions at annual screenings in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Minneapolis, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, Tacoma WA, Rochester NY, Oakland CA, Ogden UT, Salem OR, Boulder CO, and other cities—co-hosted by founder James Kennedy (author of the young-adult fantasy The Order of Odd-Fish) and other award-winning children’s authors.
The general deadline for next year’s 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is January 10, 2020. But you can turn your movies in at any time, and I hope you do!

Source America Design Challenge

The SourceAmerica Design Challenge is a national engineering competition for high school and college students, which focuses on scalable, replicable innovations with the potential to increase the economic mobility of people with disabilities throughout the U.S.

SourceAmerica invites high school and college teams to show their commitment to improving the lives of others by joining the Design Challenge. Student teams will collaborate with a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their community or an SME at one of our member nonprofits for this project. The SME is the person with a disability who is a co-designer on the team and will use the invention at work.

Together they co-create a process, device, system, or software that will minimize employment barriers and increase the earning potential of people with disabilities. Inventions are evaluated based on their impact and not technological sophistication.

SourceAmerica is committed to improving the employment opportunities, economic empowerment, and upward mobility of people with disabilities. One of the many ways we support our community is through engineering solutions and programs like Design Challenge.
