Back To School Bash - Saturday, August 16th
On Aug. 16, Austin ISD will host the ninth annual Back to School Bash Celebration and Safety Fair from 9 a.m.–noon at the Austin Convention Center. More than 100 community and district organizations will offer exhibits for AISD families to learn more about the services and programs that can help students enjoy a safe and successful school year.
Key services – Presentations on safety and educational best practices will help prepare both students and parents for the first day of school and beyond. Nurses from Dell Children’s/AISD Health Services will provide free vaccinations and Kids Vision for Life Central Texas may be providing free vision exams and eyeglasses. Students will also receive a free backpack filled with school supplies appropriate for their particular grade level.
The need – It takes a whole community to ensure that our students get off to a safe and productive start. With attendance expected to exceed 8,000 this year, we need your help. Please consider participating as a sponsor or a volunteer for this year’s celebration. With a variety of sponsorship levels and benefits, there are a number of options to help make this a memorable event for our students. Your gift will help ensure that each student receives a backpack and school supplies.

Google Maker Camp 2014
July 7th-August 15th, 2014
The first day of camp is July 7th and materials lists for the first week of camp will be posted on the MAKE Google+ page on June 26th. Each week is themed to appeal to every camper’s unique interests:
- Week 1: Makers in Motion
- Week 2: Science and Technology
- Week 3: Fun and Games
- Week 4: Art and Design
- Week 5: DIY Music
- Week 6: Make: Believe
Summer Research Challenge
This contest is open to grades K-12. It begins on June 9, 2014
with the launch of a YouTube video series (but you can join throughout the
summer--it's never too late to research!). Submissions end on August 25 and
winners will be announced September 8.
We know it's summer and summer is about having fun. So we want
you to have fun with this project. What would you do if you could do anything?
What will you become an expert in, and a creator of? We'll accept videos,
songs, fine arts, poetry, written papers, or anything else you can think of that
tells the story of your work.
Prizes for the three projects that receive
the most votes!

Penfold in the Park Presents Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet

Penfold in the ParkRomeo & Juliet is the fourth production in the “Penfold in the Park” series, an annual offering of free, outdoor summer theatre, made possible by a partnership with the Round Rock Parks & Recreation Dept. Performances take place in the amphitheater of the Centennial Plaza.
Pre-Show
Each performance will feature a different special guest who will kick off the evening with a 7:30 p.m. pre-show. A list of pre-show performers will be posted in late May. Audiences are welcome to arrive early with their own food and drink, or to purchase it from the concessions tent.
Running time: About 1:40, including one intermission.
Recommended for middle school ages and up.
Something for Nothing Presents Shakespeare's Hamlet
Shake out your picnic blankets for a night of Shakespeare under the
stars! Something for Nothing Theater returns to Ramsey Park with William
Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Marking the company’s third annual production of a
community-friendly Shakespearean play at Ramsey Park, Hamlet will be
performed with minimal props, costumes, and lighting, focusing on
storytelling and the rich language of Shakespeare. Performed by a cast
of 9 actors, featuring Jon Cook as Hamlet, Hamlet concludes at a brisk
two hours.
Considered one of the most influential and compelling dramas in English literature, Hamlet tells the story of a young prince, Hamlet, who is prompted by his father’s ghost to seek revenge on his uncle, Claudius, his father’s murderer and successor to the throne of Denmark. Hamlet decides to feign madness to avert detection by his uncle. Uncertain of the Ghost’s authenticity, Hamlet organizes a play to discover the conscience of his uncle, King Claudius. Fearful of his nephew’s intentions, King Claudius incites Laertes, the son of his advisor, Polonius, to a fencing match with Hamlet. Laertes, who is convinced that Hamlet is responsible for the deaths of his father and his sister Ophelia, puts lethal poison on his sword before the fight. In the final moments of the play, fate decides the destiny of all concerned.
