Social and Emotional Needs of the Gifted Child: What Parents Want to Know

Do gifted children have special needs? What are their unique concerns? How do gifted personality traits impact the social, emotional and educational aspects of their lives? Parents of gifted children deserve answers and will benefit from the information in this session. Dr. Light, specialist in the area of gifted children and families, and the parent of a gifted child, will discuss characteristics, misunderstandings, goals and objectives for supporting their  development. A discussion of potential risk factors will be explored as well as interventions and strategies.

Carolyn Light, Ph.D., R.N., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, as well as a Registered Nurse, in private practice in Del Mar. She specializes in serving the social, emotional and psychological needs of gifted individuals and their families in the areas of counseling, assessment, and parent consultation.
